Debunking hangover origins and remedies

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It seems that every time there is a major holiday or celebration, there are several news stories regarding ways to cure hangovers.

Hangover symptoms occur when blood alcohol levels are extremely high and then they drop back to zero. Most experts feel that hangovers are likely to be influenced by ingredients other than pure alcohol content, and dehydration plays a very important role. 

The bottom line is that there are no effective hangover remedies. 

According to a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it doesn't make any difference if you drink wine before beer or beer before wine. 

The only thing that is 100 percent certain: If you don't drink alcohol, you won't get a hangover.
