PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 76ers announced three people in their organization have tested positive for COVID-19.
As of Friday morning, it’s not known who tested positive, or if any players did. In a statement, the Sixers said it was recommended to them that some in their organization be tested, including players, coaches and specific basketball operations support staff. They also said these tests were secured and processed privately.

The three individuals are self-isolating and being monitored.

There are 14 total known cases of COVID-19 in the NBA. In addition to the Sixers’ announcement, two players on the Los Angeles Lakers tested positive, as did the Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart and a member of the Denver Nuggets. Like the Sixers, there were no specifics if the Nuggets case was a player.

Before Thursday, known cases included Utah Jazz All-Stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell; four Brooklyn Nets players; and a Detroit Pistons player, which was later revealed to be Christian Wood, according to multiple reports.

The NBA is mandating that team training facilities remain closed, and players must stay in North America.

Smart tweeted Thursday that he’s feeling fine, but he emphasized that the younger generation needs to take social-distancing seriously, adding that not doing so is selfish.

I’ve had no symptoms and I feel great. But the younger generation in our country MUST self distance. This is not a joke. Not doing so is selfish. Together we can beat this, but we must beat it together by being apart for a short while. Much love!!

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, 56, tested positive for coronavirus as well, and is the first known case in the NFL. He posted on Twitter that he’s feeling better and showing no respiratory symptoms. Payton said he shared his story to bring awareness.

Appreciate the well wishes. I'm feeling better and fortunate to not have any of the respiratory symptoms. 4 more days at home.#BEATCovid pic.twitter.com/vvjbnqoeZx
