A stray bear was spotted in a Delaware County resident’s backyard Tuesday morning.
“It’s not every day you see a bear walking through Upper Chichester,” said Anthony Lambardozzi. He was getting ready for work when he looked out the window and saw a bear out in the yard.
He yelled to his wife to call 911. He then grabbed his phone and caught it on video.
“He just walked right across our yard, down the hill and over toward our neighbor’s house,” he said. “We waited for police to get there and they looked for it for a little bit, and I think they called the (Pennsylvania) Game Commission.”
The bear was last seen strolling into a wooded area near Garnet Mine Road and Larkin Road.
“It was definitely a surprise,” Lambardozzi added. “It wasn’t what we were expecting to see. Now we just definitely have to keep an eye out to see if he comes back at all.”
Several bears were spotted in suburban areas last summer and winter — often nicknamed the “Dela-bear” — ranging from Roxborough and East Falls to Delaware County and Delaware state.
