Beer is made up of about 90 percent water, so it's important for craft breweries like 2SP Brewing Company in Aston, Delaware County, to have quality water for its business.
The small brewery joined the Audubon Society's Brewers for the Delaware River Association, and 2SP's Mike Contreras says the partnership with the environmental organization was a natural fit.
"They are really passionate about preserving the Delaware River watershed, which feeds into the Chester Creek, which is where we get our water from. And they are really interested in preserving and ensuring that the water is safe and clean; not only for birds but also for businesses as well," Contreras said.
The National Audubon Society along with 12 breweries near the Delaware River watershed sent a letter to the 116th U.S. Congress, urging members to support the watershed and the small businesses that depend on it.
The breweries will participate in events with the National Audubon Society throughout the year.
