NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — An administrator at a South Jersey Catholic Church is not only out of a job, he’s out of the priesthood in light of past allegations of sexual abuse dating back more than 30 years.

Father John Bohrer was removed from ministry more than a decade ago when the case first surfaced out of St. Pius X Church in Cherry Hill. But the Vatican reversed the move, determining the allegation did not rise to the level of permanent banishment from the priesthood.

He took over as administrator of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Collingswood in 2011. But Bohrer stepped down at the end of last month, citing health reasons, and asked to be permanently removed as a priest, according to a statement from the Diocese of Camden.

The diocese, along with its Catholic counterparts across New Jersey, is getting ready to release the names of all priests credibly accused of sex abuse as the Attorney General conducts his own independent probe.
