PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Former NBA player Stephen Jackson and Eagles wide receiver Marquise Goodwin insist they have no hatred toward the Jewish community after defending DeSean Jackson, who came under heavy criticism this week for anti-Semitic posts on Instagram.
Earlier this week, Stephen Jackson said in a since-deleted Instagram video that Jackson was “trying to educate himself, educate people and he’s speaking the truth.”

Jackson took part in an Instagram Live video on Wednesday to explain what he was trying to say in his defense of DeSean, and went on CNN on Wednesday night to further clarify himself.

“Maybe I could’ve been more clear of what I thought DeSean was correct about, but I didn’t feel the need to go into a conversation that me and him had about how they was treating him and (former Eagles wide receiver) Riley Cooper,” Stephen Jackson said.

Former NBA player Stephen Jackson says it was never his intent to defend a series of anti-Semitic posts from Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.“I apologize for using the wrong words.”

He was referring to the time Cooper was seen using a racial slur at a Kenney Chesney concert in 2013. The Eagles did not release Cooper. They fined him and made him attend sensitivity training.

After the 2013 season, in which he caught eight touchdowns, the team extended his contract. Stephen Jackson was comparing how the Eagles handled DeSean’s situation versus Cooper’s.

“The people that know me, my Jewish friends that I talked to today, they know that the last thing I was spewing was to defend Hitler or any other posts. That’s why I didn’t speak on Hitler or even speak on his posts. I spoke on exactly what I agreed with, and they was handling him different than they was handling Cooper.”

Stephen Jackson has been a very prominent voice in the fight against racial injustice after the death of his friend, George Floyd.

“I’ve been out here fighting for justice, for equality and I was speaking on equality — why they wasn’t having Cooper and DeSean Jackson any other way. Like I said, they can twist it how they want to. You didn’t hear a word out of my mouth saying I hate Jews. You didn’t hear a word out of my mouth saying I’m supporting Hitler.”

Goodwin left a comment on one of DeSean’s posts, which said, “I wish people commented this much on a BLM topic.”

I understand the Jewish community is mad at me for making a comment on Jacc page yesterday. I honestly don’t see how I was being insensitive or disrespectful, or even supportive of his previous message. I never once said i agreed or disagreed with anything! I never mentioned Adolf Hitler or anything regarding the Jewish community. My comment under DJacc post read, “I wish people commented this much on a BLM topic”... In NO WAY do I condone anything Hitler related, AS I STRONGLY BELIEVE HE WAS IN THE WRONG. We all SHOULD come together in times like these instead of dividing. NOW, THAT BEING SAID FEEL FREE TO COMMENT RESPECTFULLY BELOW. ALSO REMEMBER, at the end of the day I’m a man first, I don’t tolerate people threatening me by any means, so these disrespectful comments and threats need to stop.

Goodwin posted on Instagram that he was confused about why the Jewish community was unhappy with him.

He later posted that he’s read many responses, appreciates the feedback, never intend to be divisive, and he doesn’t support Hitler.
