Developer vows to build indoor waterpark along Atlantic City Boardwalk

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) A Philadelphia-based developer has some big plans down the shore, and he’s not allowing the pandemic to stand in the way.

Bart Blatstein owns and operates the Showboat Hotel along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Over the last few months, there was talk he might seek to bring back the casino there. Now, that idea appears to be on the back burner as Blatstein now wants to open an attraction next door.

“This would become the first year-round family resort in Atlantic City,” he told KYW Newsradio, “and it will be anchored by a very large, 100,000-square-foot indoor waterpark.”

This is at least the third time there’s been talk of such an attraction along the boardwalk. The other two went nowhere, but Blatstein said he’s committed to this project.

“I love Atlantic City,” he added. “I have a house in Margate and the shore is in my blood as it is for most Philadelphians and other people from Pennsylvania and Jersey. And I’m proud to be part of this resurgence in Atlantic City.”

He’s hired a team to get started, applied for tax breaks and plans to break ground on the $100 million facility in August.

He hopes to have it up and running in 1.5 years.
