Farewell, Nikazy: KYW Newsradio congratulates iconic anchor on retirement

By KYW Newsradio 1060

The entire KYW Newsradio team congratulates Steve Nikazy on his retirement.

After more than 29 years behind the mic, Steve will anchor his final Reporters' Roundup Friday afternoon. Steve's unmistakable brand of insight has enlightened listeners across the Philadelphia region, and his professionalism has been as a model to everyone who has set foot in the KYW newsroom for three decades.

A native of east Tennessee, Steve began his broadcasting career in music radio in Orlando, Florida, then made the switch to news with stops in Austin, Denver, and Washington, D.C. In the City of Brotherly Love, he began as a reporter and later became news director at WFIL.

A winner of multiple AP Broadcast awards, Steve’s duties have also included moderating KYW Newsradio’s pre-election programs and coverage of Tall Ships events at Penn’s Landing. A film fan, Steve produces and hosts the podcast Cinema Obscura with KYW Newsradio's Andre Bennett.

Steve was on the air when the first war in the Persian Gulf began. Asked about the most memorable news events during his time at KYW Newsradio 1060, Steve said, “I’d have to say the John Heinz plane crash, the O.J. Simpson story, and the Oklahoma City bombing figure big. Coverage of the 9/11 attacks was an event that changed my perspective on a lot of things.”

People from all over the area have been sending Steve congratulatory messages.

We'll miss you, Steve. Congratulations on an incredible career and a well-deserved retirement!
