Masks may be mandatory, they alone don’t offer complete protection. Wearing goggles, he said, is an added layer.
The eyes, nose and mouth are all entry points for the virus to infect the body. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says wearing something to cover each of them is the best way to completely protect against infection.
He told ABC News in an interview on social media that people should do all they can to protect themselves.
“Theoretically, you should protect all the mucosal surfaces, so if you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it. It’s not universally recommended, but if you want to be complete, you should probably use it if you can.”

Fauci says these protective measures will help protect against more than COVID-19 as fall and winter approach. There are still more familiar bugs out there to avoid.
