PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former Lower Merion School District teacher is facing federal charges he traveled to the Philippines to have sex with children.

Craig Levin of King of Prussia was originally charged in July after federal authorities say he was caught escorting a 15-year-old back to his hotel room in the Philippines.

An unsealed indictment from December alleges Levin set up an encounter with a girl on the internet under the age of 18.

Authorities allege the 64-year-old sexually exploited numerous girls under the age of 18 in repeated trips to the Philippines, where they say he would stay for months at time.

Levin was a teacher at Lower Merion School District from 1987 to 2007. A district spokeswoman says Levin was fired for inappropriate use of district internet resources and job performance issues.

She says the district referred the conduct to law enforcement, adding there is no indication any students were ever victimized.

And, to avoid confusion, she also points out there was a different Craig Levin who was a hockey coach at the school from 2014 to 2017.
