Franklin Institute celebrates 9 days of science fun with outdoor carnival

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Nine days of science fun and educational events throughout the region culminated Saturday with a big science carnival outside the Franklin Institute.

There were more than 180 activities. Many exhibits had a question displayed like: Are you ready for the space age? What makes a boat float? What's the buzz about bees? There were interactive activities for each specific topic.

Seven-year-old Mark Cherry of West Oak Lane participated in a handmade model car race.

"The electricity went to the battery," Cherry said. "Then it went to the wheels and powered it, and then it went all the way over there.
