Amy, who asked not to use her last name, works for a local bicycle courier service and said delivering a meal to the penthouse of a Center City high-rise used to be the norm. But that’s not the case anymore.
Now, she meets patrons at the door of the building.
She said she is acutely aware of her exposure and wants to limit it as much as possible.
“I go through the whole process of making sure my bag is clean, making sure in between each order, my bag is wiped down, making sure I always have gloves on, I always have fresh gloves on, hand sanitizer. Just to make sure everything is as clean as possible,” she said.
Amy said while traffic is lighter than a month ago, some drivers are using this to act like drag racers.
“I’ve had people pass me going 50 to 60 miles an hour on Spruce or Pine, when I’m in the bike lane,” she added.
She said she would like people to consider all of these dangers that couriers have to deal with each ride. And she urges customers to tip their couriers for putting themselves in danger to deliver dinner.
