One witness, then a registered nurse in the Abington Hospital ICU, testified Jacob Sullivan told her that he was relieved investigators were solving Packer’s murder because “it was extremely nerve-racking waiting for police to figure it out.”
Sullivan was hospitalized after he and his co-defendant, Sara Packer (Grace Packer’s adoptive mother), tried to kill themselves.
The 46-year-old Sullivan pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other charges, admitting he and Sara Packer killed the 14-year-old in the summer of 2016 in what prosecutors continue to call a rape-murder fantasy.
Another hospital worker testified Sullivan told her they plotted the murder and he knew he should go to prison, but he said he would get “eaten alive” because his crimes involve a child.
Despite the guilty plea, Sullivan is still facing the death penalty - a jury will decide life without parole or death row.
Sara Packer is cooperating and will get life in prison when she pleads guilty after Sullivan’s fate is decided.
She is expected to testify for the defense as they claim she was the “brains” behind the plot and manipulated Sullivan into committing the crimes.
