“New Jersey nursing homes, assisted living residences, dementia care homes, pediatric transitional care homes and comprehensive personal care homes can welcome reunions with loved ones in a designated outdoor space. A staff member wearing a surgical mask must remain with the resident during the visit,” she said.

Only two people can visit and they have to make an appointment ahead of time. There will be no visits with residents infected with COVID-19 or quarantined for possible exposure.

State officials also plan next week to update the viral death toll, now standing at over 12,800, to include those who likely passed from COVID-19 complications but were not definitively confirmed.

That could take the overall number of fatalities substantially higher.

State officials also announced an additional 516 positive cases, bringing the state total to 168,496 cases.
