Doctor hopes online COVID-19 symptom monitoring tool helps keep ER clear

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Patients are using an online tool to keep an eye on their own health during the outbreak of COVID-19.

The coronavirus self-checker monitoring tool lets Inspira Health patients keep track of their own well-being while staying at home.

“They’re asked the typical CDC triage questions about their symptoms, about their travel history, about their contact with people who have been ill. As they go through the decision tree about their symptoms or lack of symptoms, they’re guided into the best way they can get health care or just remain at home," he said.

The messages explain when symptoms require monitoring at home, a call to the doctor or a trip to the emergency department.

He says it’s a good way to keep from overwhelming doctor’s offices and emergency departments.

The tool also offers hygiene tips, ways to battle anxiety, and coronavirus facts and myths.
