The emergency meal preparation day will take place at the Jewish Family and Children's Service's Bala Cynwyd location at 345 Montgomery Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Paula Goldstein, president and CEO of the organization, says after getting several calls from people affected by the partial government shutdown, her team sprang into action.
"Alot of work was done over the holiday weekend in figuring out how we were going to get volunteers to the building and what food we needed to purchase. This is what we do. This is why we're here," she said.
She says they need quite a few good Samaritans to help make pasta and other baked goods.
"We need alot of hands to make some very nourishing, hearty meals for people to be able to take home," she said.
The meals will be given out on Thursday to people who show up with their government IDs.
"For people that wanna make a difference, wanna give back, this is a great thing to do," Goldstein added.
