South Jersey kid brings home heroin with Halloween candy

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in Middle Township, Cape May County, say a parent found a bag of heroin mixed in with their kid's Halloween candy.

Police and prosecutors say it's a reminder for parents to take a look at the candy their kids bring home.

Police say a parent told the cops after finding the bag of drugs among the candy their kid brought home from a trunk-or-treat event at the Shore Family Success Center in the Rio Grande section of the township last Friday.

The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office says the substance was taken to the lab for testing, and they confirmed it was heroin.

Where that heroin came from and how it got in the bag, police haven't said. They believe this is an isolated incident and the child didn't consume the drugs.

Authorities are urging parents to look out for anything suspicious or unfamiliar before their kids eat any Halloween treats.
