PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for the driver of a silver Jeep who they say ran over a man in the city's Fairhill neighborhood and then drove off.

It happened just after 2 a.m. Friday along North Front Street near Lehigh Avenue.

Capt. Mark Overwise of the Accident Investigation Division describes the scene: “They are driving away — it appears they may have run over his leg. It is hard to tell in the video but the pedestrian has a serious leg injury and other serious injuries, and in fact, he is in the operating room at Temple (University) Hospital.

“It appears to be a 2005 to 2010 Jeep Cherokee SRT8 model — that is one of the higher-end models,” he continued. “The fog light in the bottom part of the bumper, if you look in the video, you can see fog lights are working but the right front headlight is out.”

Overwise also had a message for the driver: “We understand you may have panicked, but there is still time to make this right. Give us a call.”
