“If you’re coming to Manayunk, you’re going to end up at Mad River. At the end of the day we had everyone here. From 11 to 2 we were always rocking,” said assistant general manager Joe Chilutti.
But not anymore.
After 11 years, the Main Street bar is shutting down because of coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s a sad day. This was our life and now it’s gone. I’m going to miss this place,” said Chilutti, who has been there for seven years.
The bar's general manager posted on social media that Mad River “won’t make it through this mess,” and since then, the bar has been getting an outpouring of love from people who’ve visited the establishment in the past 11 years.
“It’s crazy to see how many people are like, ‘oh Mad River I’ll miss you’ this and that. At the end of the day, everyone had a blast here. Great memories,” Chilutti added.
On social media, videos show people visiting the bar after the closing announcement and pouring beers out on the front. A bouquet of flowers was also left on the front door.
“It’s crazy to think it’s done. It hasn’t really hit home yet because nothing is open. It’s just really weird to think about,” Chilutti said.
