Runaway dog gives Philly cops, drivers a 'ruff' time on Vine Expressway

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A police pursuit slowed down traffic on the Vine Street Expressway in the early-morning hours Thursday. Officers on foot were chasing a runaway dog.

Here's what you missed if you were sleeping at 1:52 a.m.:

KYW Traffic reporter Andy Anderson was watching this all play out on cameras along the expressway.

"It got a little wild on the Vine very quickly," he reported. "Vine Expressway eastbound, right by 9th, we had a disabled in the left lane. Well, it looks like a dog bolted out of the vehicle and is now running up and down the Vine Expressway eastbound."

PennDOT asked Anderson to warn drivers about the activity ahead.

This dog now joins the ranks of other notable escaped animals that tried to make a getaway via Philadelphia expressways, including a cow that wandered away from a live nativity display in Old City in 2017 and a flock of peacocks from the Philadelphia Zoo that was spotted walking along the shoulder of I-76 last year.
