Gary Zimmaro, president of Archbishop Wood High, said the video was the brainchild of three teachers, who chose to read “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” by Dr. Seuss to the 192 graduating seniors.
“They emailed all the faculty and staff and said, ‘Would you like to participate?’ Of course, we all jumped on board. There were over 45 of us involved,” he said.
Each teacher was assigned to read a line or two from the story.
The message of “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” is especially poignant for high school grads: Seize new opportunities and embrace the challenges of life.
The 10-minute video was released on Monday and reflects the feelings of the school community for the seniors whose lives were upended by COVID-19.
”They don’t get a chance to walk the hallways again. They’ve lost everything,” Zimmaro said. “If they’re an athlete, they’ve lost their season. And they haven’t had their prom, and we don’t know what graduation is going to look like.”
Zimmaro hopes the video tribute will remind the students that wherever they go, an extended school family stands with them.
