Republican Sen. Pat Toomey expressed his support of President Trump in the drone strike on Soleimani. He said Iran is "a dangerous, radical pariah" in the region that supports state sponsored terrorism.
"I am hoping the sanctions and the enormous economic pressure that we have been and will continue to put on Iran, will ultimately lead to either this regime changing it's pursuit of hostilities and nuclear weapons, or it's being replaced by another regime that would."
However, Toomey said he does not support the war powers resolution proposed by Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia. The proposal would require Congress to debate whether war is necessary in the region, which Democratic Sen. Bob Casey said he is in support of.
"We live in a country where people were lied to from Vietnam and Iraq and maybe beyond that. The American people need and deserve the answers to these basic questions," said Casey.
The last time Congress voted to approve a war was in 2002.
