WATCH: Man Confronts Maskless NYPD Cop, Who Dismisses Him as a 'Male Version of Karen'

Do a different set of rules apply to NYPD officers when it comes to wearing masks?

Well, based on a video that's surfaced of a man asking two maskless officers in a subway station if they are exempt from the mask-wearing guidelines, one may think so.

In the video -- posted Tuesday night to TikTok -- the man is called a "male version of Karen" by one of the officers, when he asks why they're not covering their faces. (A "Karen" is typically used to describe a white woman who is entitled, condescending and demanding.)

The man kicked off his interaction with the officers, asking them, "Is the fine applied just to me or to you guys too if you don’t wear masks in the subway… I’m just curious?"

One of the officers responds, "Actually, it states that as long as you can maintain six feet of distance, you don’t have to wear the mask. If you want to step within six feet of me, I’ll gladly put on the mask."

Undeterred, the man then points out that the two officers are within a few feet of each other. Well, that didn't sit well with the other officer.

"You got nothing better to do," the cop says, "you're the person that calls someone, ya know, when someone is selling water bottles in the streets … that's what you are, all right Karen?"

He continues, "You’re like the male version of Karen, so have a nice day… take care, Karen."

An NYPD spokesperson said, "It’s important officers are reinforcing the best health practices and wearing a mask for their own safety. Officers will continue to set the right example for the public and ensure safe transportation for riders. In addition, we are doing spot checks of our officers throughout the system."

And interim president of the MTA Sarah Feinberg said, "Everyone in the transit system is required to wear a mask – it’s the law – no exceptions. This is a matter of respect for fellow New Yorkers, including our customers and employees, and for public health and safety."
