University of Delaware increases residence hall capacity for spring semester

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The University of Delaware is increasing the number of students who are allowed to live on campus for the spring semester — from 1,300 to 4,000 — during the coronavirus pandemic.

The spring semester will start on Feb. 15, a week later than scheduled, to “reduce campus activities during the flu season.”

University President Dennis Assanis said first-year students and seniors will be given first priority to take advantage of the extended capacity.

All students will live in singles.

The spring semester will also bring the return of some sports. Spring break, however, is off the calendar this year to minimize out-of-state travel.
