PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Chester County woman is facing charges for allegedly starting a fire in her apartment complex, which caused $5 million in damages and left nearly 100 of the complex’s residents displaced back in July.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office said 30-year-old Toni Kirk, who was arrested in New York, is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and causing a catastrophe.

The fire ripped through the Ashwood Apartments Complex in North Coventry Township back in July.

No lives were lost, but authorities say several residents and first responders were injured.

Witnesses say Kirk was the only person to leave her apartment following the fire. She blamed someone else, but police say that person was not present. They also say Kirk appeared to be under the influence of narcotics at the scene.

Investigators believe the fire was intentional.

Court dates will be set once Kirk is extradited from New York.
