One person is dead and one person is hurt after a church shooting at the Starsville Methodist Church in Winona, Texas.
Smith County Sheriff's Sgt. Larry Christian says deputies were called to the scene at 9:20 this morning and found two people had been shot. One of the two has died. The suspect fled the scene, Christian said, and there were no services going on at the time of the shooting.
Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement on the shooting and offering condolences and prayers to the victims.
"Our hearts are with the victims and the families of those killed or injured in this terrible tragedy. I am grateful for the law enforcement officers who apprehended the suspect, and I ask Texans to join Cecilia and me in praying for those affected by this horrific shooting. The State of Texas is working closely with the first responders and local officials to ensure that justice is served and that the Starrville community has the resources it needs during this time."
According to a report, the suspect is in custody after his arrest in the Marshall area.
