“Saved by the Bell” alum Dustin Diamond has received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis after being hospitalized over the weekend.
The actor’s rep confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly and called the situation “serious.”
Diamond has already begun treatment.
"He's undergoing chemo so he will be there at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home," Diamond’s rep told the outlet. "By next week, we'll have a much better understanding of the severity of his condition and what treatments he will need so that he's comfortable."
According to TMZ, Diamond received the diagnosis after discovering a lump in his throat.
The 44-year-old is said to be feeling “fine” now, but was experiencing discomfort when he was admitted to the hospital in Florida over the weekend.
"He was fading in and out, feeling sleepy and tired,” the rep shared to EW. “On top of all this he also has shingles, so he's been in a lot of pain."
Diamond’s team followed up the news by releasing a statement on the actor’s Facebook page.
"At this time we can confirm that Dustin does have cancer," read the statement. "Dustin will disclose more information once it is available and a plan moving forward is made."
“We ask everyone to respect Dustin’s privacy during this difficult time . All positivity and prayers are appreciated,” the team added.
Former "Saved by the Bell" star Mario Lopez "connected" with Diamond recently, posting about the interaction on social media.
"I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he'll overcome this. Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery," Lopez wrote alongside a throwback image of the pair.
Diamond rose to fame playing the nerdy sidekick Screech during the original run of “Saved by the Bell” from 1989 - 1993 and its spinoff, “Saved by the Bell: The College Years.”
The actor didn’t reprise the character for the recent Peacock revival of the original NBC series.
