McAuley on trade deadline: ‘if I get one move it’s the bullpen.’

Tuesday, July 10th

Grant McAuley joined Dukes and Bell to talk about our first place Braves and his concerns after the 10 game road trip, “I think the biggest concern in the last five or six games has been the starting pitching, the rotation had been the backbone of the staff and then all of a sudden you can’t get guys to the sixth inning.”  Grant spoke on if we should be concerned about Sean Newcomb’s recent struggles, he said “I’m not really concerned with him because over a whole season everyone is going to have their highs and lows, he had not had two bad starts consecutively until this road trip so it’ll be the first big test for him.”  The guys asked Grant about Ender Inciarte’s being pulled from the game on Sunday,  “He talked about having issues with his legs, and when’s the best time to run, this isn’t the first time this has been an issue this year. I think Brian Snitker did the right thing, even though this is a veteran player who was an all-star last year, there were a couple of different things that might have lead Snitker to make that move and prove a point.”  When asked what is the one move he would make at the deadline McAuley told us “It’s got to be bullpen, the bullpen has been a place where the questions have been dogging this team since early on, if I get one move it’s the bullpen."
