Rumor has it Adele will be releasing a new album this September. Unfortunately, that’s all it is. A rumor.
Speculation surrounding a new Adele album began swirling earlier this year over comments she made at a friend’s wedding. She was performing at the wedding of Laura Dockrill and in between songs told the crowd “expect my album in September!”
Adele’s manager Jonathan Dickins’ latest comments suggest we won’t be seeing her new record anytime soon. "It isn’t coming in September, it’ll be ready when it’s ready,” he told MusicWeek in an interview.
“We’re all in the same boat, you’re doing stuff and then all of a sudden, the world stops. It’ll come when it’s ready. I can’t put a date on that yet. We have music, but we’re still working.”
From the sounds of Dickins’ comments, it appears Adele was working on the record before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. How far along into it she was remains to be seen, but September certainly seemed like a realistic timeline before everything shut down.
While Adele may not be able to work on new music during quarantine, she’s certainly keeping busy. The “Hello” singer took to Instagram to rave about a new show she’s been binge-watching.
“‘I May Destroy You’ is the best thing I’ve seen on British TV for yeaaaarssss!!” she captioned the post.
“It’s wholesome, uncomfortable, hilarious but terribly sad and then awkward... and then it makes you cough a bit for no reason and also makes you go put the kettle on, for no reason. You might pretend you need a pee and then you get a bit itchy, then it makes you ask your girls things you haven’t before. And then makes you want to run out in the street and laugh so hard like mad til you cry for absolute hours! I’ve never felt so many emotions at once! Absolutely fantastic!”
