21-year-old Grace Shaw has taken her brand of bedroom pop into the mainstream under the name, Mallrat. Thanks to sharp songwriting and soft, siren vocals, she has emerged as one of Australia’s greatest exports, weaving stories of simplicity with dexterous sincerity.
Mallrat has been impacting in her native country for some time, but in the states we are just getting a glimpse of the young talent. Bubbling up independent charts and finding placement in major ad campaigns, her success is already starting to take hold. Mallrat released her latest EP, Driving Music, last month and continues to win hearts around the world.
After touring the US with Maggie Rogers and Australia with Post Malone, Mallrat already has experience beyond her years. The self-taught producer and songwriter is set for big things in the coming months, all sprung to life from her personal laptop anthems.
Mallrat wraps her US tour this week, but before she heads home for a string of shows in Australia, we snuck in an exclusive intimate performance. Check out a stripped down edition of “Groceries” above, and her song “Charlie” below.
