Carrie Underwood ushered in a much needed early holiday season, releasing her debut Christmas album My Gift, last Friday. The country superstar is pairing her merry release with seasonal TV special on HBO Max.
“I’m thrilled to announce that we will be bringing my new album #MyGift to life with a Christmas special on @HBOMax this holiday season!,” Carrie Tweeted to fans, last week.
The exclusive holiday special features Underwood performing from The Gift, alongside a live orchestra and choir. HBO says the fans can expect “a combination of beloved traditional favorites celebrating the spiritual nature of the holiday.” No word yet on a release date for the special.
The newly crowned ACM Entertainer of the Year told the Today show her 5-year-old son Isaiah makes a special vocal appearance on the holiday classic “Little Drummer Boy.” She says her eldest child embodies the spirit of a classic Christmas tune. “Whenever I think about that song, you know, I picture his face and his personality, that is so him.”
Underwood released a trailer before the album’s Friday release, depicting her and Isaiah turning the Christmas spirit up to 11 in a recording booth. His infectious energy emanates through the mic.
“I was like in the booth with him and trying to get him to access all his little 5-year-old emotions which he can totally do on his own, but that clip is him throwing his arms in the air and he was just so expressive.”
Carrie plans to release vinyl copies of My Gift October 30.
