Carrie Underwood made her Christmas album My Gift, a family affair. Her 5-year-old son Isaiah makes a special vocal appearance on the holiday classic “Little Drummer Boy.”
The newly crowned ACM Entertainer of the Year told the Today show her eldest child embodies the spirit of a classic Christmas tune, "Little Drummer Boy." “Whenever I think about that song, you know, I picture his face and his personality, that is so him,” she told the show.
“He would be the kid that would make you something and bring it to you because that’s what he had to give you. That’s the whole sentiment behind ‘Little Drummer Boy’ is bringing what he has to Jesus, which is why I wanted to name the album 'My Gift.'”
Underwood released a trailer before the album’s Friday release, depicting her and Isaiah turning the Christmas spirit up to 11 in a recording booth. His infectious energy emanates through the mic.
“I was like in the booth with him and trying to get him to access all his little 5-year-old emotions which he can totally do on his own, but that clip is him throwing his arms in the air and he was just so expressive.”
Carrie plans to release vinyl copies of her Christmas album October 30, with a full-length special, complete with a live orchestra and choir, set to premiere on HBO Max.
Country fans were shocked after Underwood and Thomas Rhett both won ACM Entertainer of The Year earlier this month. It was the first tie in the show’s history. She remained incredibly graceful in the awkward moment saying
"I am more than happy to share this with Thomas Rhett and just to have my name mentioned with his... I am beyond honored."
