It’s never too early to begin spreading joy for the holiday season. Dolly Parton and Michael Bublé are here to make sure of that.
The duo joined RADIO.COM’s David, Sue, and Kendra from MAGIC 106.7 in Boston for an interview to discuss their collaboration “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas” as part of Dolly’s upcoming Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas.
“One of the things I’m so excited about is my duet with Michael that’s in our Holly Dolly Christmas album. That was one of our great Christmas treats of my whole life,” Parton said.
A Holly Dolly Christmas marks Parton’s first holiday album in 30 years and her third overall. Bublé, who already has a massively successful Christmas album to his name, jumped at the opportunity to take part in A Holly Dolly Christmas when he was asked.
“You can plug your ears Dolly if this embarasses you,” Michael said with a smile. “This is something I would say behind her back and I don’t think anyone would disagree. Dolly is one of the greatest, most talented, sweetest, beautiful people not just in the business, but in the world. And, such an incredible writer, just the greatest writer.”
“For a guy like me, this is one of those moments in a career that you really feel like defines a career… This meant a lot to me,” he added.
“That song, it’s like I wrote it just for you. Now it turns out that I did!” Dolly joked afterwards.
As the unofficial ambassadors of Christmas 2020, we wanted to get an official decree from the duo. When do you start decorating your home for Christmas?
“I start decorating the house on Thanksgiving,” Dolly said. “The day after Thanksgiving is over all the lights come on all the trees and then I celebrate all the way through.”
“I’m a little bit embarrassed to tell you, but my Christmas tree is up already,” Michael said. He had a good reason for getting a head start on decorating though.
“With COVID and everything, everybody has felt a little down and I wanted to bring life to the house. It’s been a lot of fun to decorate with the kids. I know I’m way too early! But the kids came into the house and their eyes lit up.”
With Christmas just weeks away, we wanted to know how Dolly planned on spending Christmas morning. Turns out, she’s going to do it like she always has “I have a lot of my little nieces and nephews,” Dolly said. “I always get up and start to put on the things I’m going to be cooking. Putting together all the things I’m going to have laid out for all the kids when they do come. I just do the traditional stuff, make sure that everybody’s going to get what they’re expecting from my house whether it be food or decorations.”
“And turn on the music!” She exclaimed. “Turn on the music right away, that’s one of the first things on Christmas you got to start that immediately and that’ll just go all day.”
“Michael’s album is definitely one of our specials!” Dolly added with a smile.
