Ingrid Andress has secured a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the 2020 CMAs and she’s feeling pretty good about entering into a category stacked with talents such as Gabby Barrett, Jimmie Allen, Carly Pearce, and Morgan Wallen. Additionally, Ingrid has locked down a nomination for Song of the Year for her track, “More Hearts Than Mine.”
Prior to the award show, Andress sat down with RADIO.COM's Katie Neal and gave us a preview into what we can expect from her performance during Wednesday night’s show. Ingrid will be singing the song she is nominated for, “More Hearts Than Mine” on the CMAs stage “which is so crazy to me,” says the rising Country star. She adds, “It’s such a personal song… you know when I wrote it I didn’t think I would be performing it at an award show, so it’s going to be a beautiful thing, a roller coaster of emotions.”
Ingrid, who tells us she just doesn’t “know how to feel any more” in reference to the ever-evolving unrest of 2020, is very ready to safely be around people at the CMAs and “just celebrate Country music.” Her performance this year will be one of the few live shows she’s done this year, with an actual audience as well.
Ingrid tells us that she is most excited about her “Song of the Year” nomination and says, “I’ve been writing for so many years and you know, being in that category is always something I’ve looked at as a songwriter.” She continues, “to me, that's why I love music, it's the songwriting aspect of it, so when I found out I was nominated for that I’ve been geeking out since then.”
This year Ingrid launched her debut album Lady Like which “More Hearts Than Mine” originates from, plus the singer released a deluxe version of Lady Like this year as well. “Obviously releasing your debut album during a pandemic is not ideal, and probably not the best idea I’ve ever had, but at the same time… the one thing we can still do during this time is listen to music and connect to it so, if anything I’m just glad so many people are relating to whatever stories I’m sharing,” says Andress.
When asked about her title track “Lady Like” and how she was inspired to reappropriate the phrase, Ingrid explains that the inspiration comes from her “life in general.”
“It came from a real place of wanting to express who I was as a person or who I am, and hopefully empowering other people too, to not have to apologize for who they are or not have to fit into a box,” Ingrid powerfully speaks. “I think stereotypes are old and a lot of rules that we follow as a society were made by old white men, so it’s like, why are we still following this because not all of us are like that.”
You can catch Country’s newest, empowered, bright spot, Ingrid Andress on Wednesday, November 11th during the 2020 CMAs at 8PM ET. Check out the full interview with the "More Hearts Than Mine" singer above.
