You Don't Have to Choose: Maren Morris on Balancing Music and Being a Mom

The singer sends a call to artists employing women

In a post celebrating the pregnancy of her bassist, Maren Morris took some time to drop some mom-to-be knowledge on artists everywhere. The “GIRL” singer shared a shot of her along with Annie Clements, and put everyone on notice that you don’t have to choose between music and being a mom.

“So unbelievably happy for you,” she writes about Clements. “I love that we’ll get to experience this new-mom-on-the-road life together.”

“I know there are so many women who feel like they have to choose between being a touring musician and starting a family. I never wanted my people to choose. I think it’s a great conversation to have if you’re an artist who employs women. So let’s shred for 90 minutes and then go rock these babes to sleep on the bus with a glass of wine.”

In October, Morris announced that she was pregnant with a boy, a twist after Maren had spent the year strongly supporting women with her album GIRL and her all-female World Tour. "The irony is just too rich that after a year of living in the 'GIRL' headspace, the universe would give us a baby boy to even things out," she wrote as she announced the news. "See you in 2020, little one."

Earlier this year at the CMA Awards, Country stars offered up potential names for Morris’ new baby. You can see how that went below. Maren would go on to win the CMA Award for Album of the Year.
