Acclaimed singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle has passed away at the age of 38.
The news of his passing was announced on his social media Sunday evening. “It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin. So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys. You will be missed dearly Justin,” an Instagram post captioned.
Earle was a prominent figure in the Americana and Alt-Country genres and the son of legendary singer-songwriter Steve Earle.
Following the news of his death, numerous musicians and celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the late singer-songwriter.
“We had the pleasure of playing a few shows together. He was such an immense songwriter and authentic soul. This year is a thief,” The Head & The Heart wrote in a tweet.
“It appears that Justin Townes Earle has died. I hope it's a hoax but fear it is not. What a loss,” author Stephen King said in a tweet.
“I'm saddened to hear that we have lost Justin Townes Earle and at such a young age. I worked with him last year and found him to be a brilliant songwriter and generous soul. My thoughts go out to his family and friends,” Billy Bragg said.
Other artists such as Jason Isbell, Margo Price, and others shared stories of writing and playing music with Earle. A cause of death was not given.
