Before performing in front of a crowd of 50,000 people at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, the Andrew Jackson Elementary School choir had the attention of a very important audience of one.
While the students were getting in their final rehearsals for “The Champion” by Carrie Underwood with Ludacris, the country star surprised them with a special visit.
“I originally saw this incredible group on Facebook doing my song “Champion,” Underwood said in a video produced by the CMA Foundation. “You could see how much love and thought and hard work was put into this.”
The 3rd and 4th graders performed their take on the song during the CMA Music Festival a few days later. They were invited after organizers saw the same video that caught Underwood’s attention.
Jackson Elementary is a beneficiary of the CMA Foundation, which has donated nearly $12 million dollars to support musical opportunities in Nashville’s public schools.
