According to Kelsea Ballerini, “Homecoming Queen?” is the most emotional single she’s ever released.
Serving as the first official look at her highly-anticipated third album, the song arrives with sincerity and a look beneath the veneer of beauty. “Homecoming Queen is about, just kind of peeling back the layers of perfection that we all put on ourselves to feel okay,” Ballerini explains. “But really it’s okay to not be okay sometimes.”
“Homecoming Queen?” is a RADIO.COM World Premiere, which means you can hear it here and stream it on the RADIO.COM app all throughout the day on Friday September 6.
“Even the Homecoming Queen cries,” she sings, looking behind the flawless face and perfect poise to reveal that we’re all the same underneath.
Everyone tries to dance with their “best foot forward,” but we all have our struggles.
“It’s a metaphor for somebody that seemingly has it all together and polished from the outside looking in,” Kelsea wrote in a Twitter Q and A earlier this week. But is she the Homecoming Queen in question? “I definitely was not, haha.”
Kelsea’s latest album, Unapologetically, was released in November of 2017, with a deluxe edition arriving a year later. In July, she claimed that she has over 100 songs written for the new album.
Ballerini has also revealed that her third album has a name, and it is on the way in 2020. “Still making it perfect,” she added.
