On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their shortlist for 9 categories for the upcoming 2020 Oscars. That means the pool of potential nominees just got smaller, and we now know who could be competing at the awards on Sunday, February 9.

Among the categories revealed was Best Original Song, offering up a solid set of contenders even before the list gets whittled down for the nomination announcement on January 13. Beyoncé is a part of the shortlist for her work on “Spirit” from The Lion King, while Pharrell Williams is here for writing "Letter to My Godfather" from The Black Godfather on Netflix. Randy Newman could return to the category thanks to his song from Toy Story 4, and Elton John has two songs under consideration from two different films, The Lion King and his biopic Rocketman.
