Hoda Kotb’s dream wedding may not happen due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Today” show host’s nuptials to fiancé Joel Schiffman were set to take place later this year at a destination wedding at an undisclosed locale. But like many couples, their wedding plans have been derailed due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19.
“We are kind of guessing that it will (be postponed),” the 55-year-old disclosed. “It was a destination wedding, which would mean people getting on planes. We were kind of holding out to see what could happen, but the destination we were going to is turning into one of the (coronavirus) hot spots. So, it looks like we may have to postpone.”
Kotb further elaborated on her disappointment, but was still hopeful she’d still be able to walk down the aisle at a later date.
“We’re kind of bummed about that because the place we were going was like our favorite place on earth,” she added, without revealing the location.
“We love it there. I know we should say, ‘Who cares? It doesn’t matter.’ But we waited a long time, so I sure hope we get to have it (there). I just don’t know when.”
And while they may not be making it official just yet, Kotb said the pandemic has made her more confident Schiffman is the one.
"I picked the best person on Earth. I know it a thousand times over," she confessed. "Being cooped up, you know right away if you chose right. I mean, you know. I don't know if he thinks he chose right, but I did."
Kotb and Schiffman began dating in 2013 and got engaged in November of 2019 during a beachside proposal in Mexico. The couple have two daughters, Haley Joy, 3, and Hope Catherine, 14 months.
