Supermodel Kate Upton is no stranger to being on the cover of magazines, but her latest for Health Magazine is like none before.
The 27-year-old took a stand against the unhealthy beauty standards that editing, filters, and airbrushing falsely represent as normal by making sure none of her photos from the September issue of the glossy were retouched.
“We live in a world where we are constantly surrounded by retouching and filters, and we don’t even realize it - it’s become the new norm, creating unrealistic expectations,” the new mom captioned a pic of the cover on Instagram.
“That’s why I loved the idea of doing this shoot unretouched, to take a step towards embracing our true, raw self. “
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue star was partly motivated to make a bold statement after she and her professional baseball player husband Justin Verlander welcomed their daughter, Genevieve, last year.
She added: “Months after giving birth, this wasn’t the easiest choice... but a choice I thought was important for my daughter and for women everywhere. “
Upton also hopes her raw images help people to stop comparing themselves to others.
“So, for me, doing an unretouched shoot is a step toward embracing real life,” she told the magazine. “The goal should be to be the best you can be—not try to look like someone else.”
It's an important thing for everyone to remember as we navigate our social media feeds.
Kate’s cover of Health is out now.
