Kathy Griffin’s mother Maggie Griffin passed away at the age of 99 on Tuesday.
The 59-year-old comedian announced the news on Tuesday night.
“My Mom, the one and only, Maggie Griffin, passed away today,” Griffin captioned posts on Twitter and Instagram. “I am gutted. My best friend. I’m shaking.”
Griffin shared a photo of herself and her mom both sitting together in a poolside chair. In the photo, Maggie lifts a glass of white wine, and the two embrace the view from their Los Angeles home.
Fans remember Maggie for her comical appearances on Griffin’s reality show “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List,” which aired on Bravo from 2005 to 2010.
Kathy gave a nod to fans who appreciated Maggie, and Kathy’s frequent references to her in her comedy routines.
“I’m so grateful you got to be part of her life,” she said. “You loved her. I know it. She knew it. She’s irreplaceable.”
Celebrities chimed in with condolences. Stars like Chrissy Teigen, Sharon Stone, Aisha Tyler and Kris Jenner shared warm words.
“God Bless precious Maggie and may she Rest In Peace … love you Kathy,” commented Jenner, whose daughter and son-in-law Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, once lived next door to the Griffins.
In 2007, Maggie’s husband and Kathy’s father, John, died at the age of 90.
In January, Kathy celebrated the New Year by marrying her longtime boyfriend Randy Bick.
