Royal Palace Responds to Meghan and Harry's 'Complicated' Plans to 'Step Back'

Buckingham Palace has responded to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's shocking announcement declaring their plans to "step back" from royal duties.

The Palace issued a curt statement to press in response to the announcement on late Wednesday, Fox News reports.

"Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage," the statement read. "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

On Wednesday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made a statement announcing that they will be taking a step back from their royal duties in order to focus on their family by becoming more financially independent and transition into a “progressive new role” within the institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen,” the statement reads.

The change will come with a more balanced schedule between the United Kingdom and North America. “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity,” the statement continues.

"We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge, and all relevant parties," they continued.

The news comes on the heels of speculation that the royal couple is looking to move to Canada. The two spent six weeks in British Columbia over the holidays, and have just returned to their royal duties with an appearance at Canada House in London.
