Bend and snap because “Legally Blonde 3” is happening.
Mindy Kaling has been tapped to co-write the highly-anticipated film, which will see Reese Witherspoon reprising her iconic role of Elle Woods, reported Deadline.
While plot details have not been revealed, “The Office” actress is penning the script alongside "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator Dan Goor.
Witherspoon took to social media to share her excitement.
“Some things are just meant to be! I’m SOOO excited to have @mindykaling and @djgoor writing Legally Blonde 3!,” the 44-year-old tweeted. “This is #ElleWoodsApproved!”
Back in 2018, Witherspoon confirmed news that a third installment was in the works.
In an Instagram video, the Oscar winner is seen floating on a pool raft while wearing a bedazzled pink bikini. "It's true... #LegallyBlonde3," she captioned the clip.
The video paid homage to the iconic scene from the original film where Elle floated on a pool float for her Harvard admissions video.
But more than a year later, it appeared the project had stalled.
"It's just a development project right now, so we'll see," Witherspoon told “Entertainment Tonight” in 2019, before mentioning which co-stars she’d love to see return to the franchise.
"I love Jennifer Coolidge (Paulette) and Luke Wilson (Emmett) and Selma Blair (Vivian) and so there's so many great characters that people love,” she continued. "If we end up doing it, hopefully they end up all being there."
Further casting or a release date have yet to be announced.
Premiering in 2001, “Legally Blonde” was a blockbuster hit earning over $140 million at the global box office. Its sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde,” was released two years later and grossed over $125 million worldwide.
Kaling and Witherspoon previously co-starred in the 2018 film, “A Wrinkle in Time.”
