Vanessa Bryant Posts Touching Tribute to Daughter Gianna as Middle School Retires Her Jersey

Kobe Bryant’s widow has been sharing her grief over the loss of her husband and 13-year-old daughter, Gianna. On Wednesday, Gianna’s middle school held a ceremony where they retired her number 2 jersey. Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram with the details.

“My Gianna. God I miss you. I’ve been so lucky to have woken up to see your gorgeous face and amazing smile for 13 years. Wish it would’ve been until my last breath,” Bryant captioned the first post from the evening.

“Mommy loves you to the moon and back,” she concluded. The photo featured a floral display with Gianna’s name and jersey number spelled out in red flowers with a photo of the 13-year-old on display in the background.

In the posts that followed, Bryant documented the jersey retirement ceremony in a series of videos. The ceremony featured kind words about Gianna from coaches, teammates, classmates, and teachers. During a portion of the ceremony, a group of girls sang a rendition of “Memories” by Maroon 5.

The final post from Bryant features an image of Gianna’s framed jersey as well as a video of the unveiling of it. The jersey will be hung in the gymnasium of Gianna’s middle school.

“My Gigi. I love you! I miss you. You’ve taught us all that no act of kindness is ever too small. Mommy is still and will ALWAYS be so proud of you mamacita,” the caption reads.
