Amber Smith is continuing to remember she and husband Granger Smith’s son River.
River tragically passed in a drowning accident in June. As a tribute to their 3-year-old son, Amber and Granger have donated tens of thousands to the hospital that tried to save him, made YouTube videos sharing their love for him, and posted heartwarming photos of the sweet River.
In a new Instagram post, Amber shared a photo gallery showing the “light” that seemed to always surround River. A sleepless night lead to her looking through picture of River, where she noticed the glow following her vibrant son.
“We always used to ask him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He never said a fireman, or police man or doctor. He always said ‘when I get bigger I reach the light,’” she wrote in the caption. “I know he probably meant the light switch, but it still makes me smile and still gives me a bit of hope. He’s definitely reaching the light now.”
“One month. The hardest month of our lives. But we are here. One month closer to seeing him again.”
Earlier this week, Amber admitted how much she’s been struggling to accept their loss in hopes it would help another family enduring a similar situation. In the caption of a post with selfies with River and Bible quotes, Amber opened up how she’s been able to motivate herself to keep going.
“I just want to share my journey with all of you because it will be a long road, and if we can help at least one person going through something like this, then it is worth it to me to be open about my feelings, my faith, my struggles,” she wrote.
3-year-old River Smith died of a drowning on June 6. "We were doing gymnastics in the yard and the boys were playing a water gun fight,” a choked up Granger previously explained of River’s last moments. “I remember thinking, I was looking at London, and as she was doing gymnastics and I thought, 'Soak up this moment because it's not going to last forever.' Somewhere between 30 seconds and three minutes, we don't know, Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son.”
