Buckle up ya’ll, it’s tea time.
August Alsina is claiming to have had an authorized love affair with Jada Pinkett Smith — after her husband, Will Smith, allegedly gave the relationship his blessing.
Whether you believe it or not, it’s now on the internet, so people are talking about it, us included.
Alsina, who happens to be on a promotional run for his new album The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy and its accompanying five-part docuseries, decided to speak his truth in an attempt to clear his name. So the singer sat down with Angela Yee to talk about his controversial relationship with Jada.
We don’t know you guys, it’s pretty convenient timing if you ask us… but hey, who are we to stop a man from speaking his truth.
"People can have whatever ideas that they like. But what I'm not OK with is my character being in question... Contrary to what some people may believe, I'm not a troublemaker. I don't like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous. I also don't think that it's ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date, right? But in this instance, there are so many people who are side-eyeing me... I've lost money, friendships, relationships behind it. And I think it's because people don't necessarily know the truth. But I've never done anything wrong. I love those people, he said referring to the Smiths, “they are beautiful people.”
Speculations of a relationship between the New Orleans native and Mrs.Pinkett Smith originally sparked in 2009 with his song “Nunya” with lines like, "You got me feeling like it was an act, you're just an actress/Putting on a show 'cause you don't want the world to know." The track's official video also featured a shot of a text message from a love interest listed as "Koren," which just so happens to be Jada's middle name. However, August shot down the rumors, insisting the song is “simply just a song.”
Okay back to the present, during the sit down with Yee, Alsina opened up about how the relationship with Jada wasn't a secret affair, and that her and husband Will Smith had an open marriage.
"I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation... He gave me his blessing.” Alsina admitted to falling in love with Pinkett Smith, saying “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it. So much so that I can die right now, and be okay knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody... Some people never get that in this lifetime."
Reps for Pinkett Smith have responded to Alsina’s claims saying they are “absolutely not true.”
