Chance The Rapper’s debut album, The Big Day, came up just short of the number one spot this week, landing behind The Search from Michigan rapper NF. It is NF’s second time in the top position, and the highest performance yet from Chance.
On Monday morning, Chance seemed to aired out some feelings about the reaction to the album, which centers on themes of his marriage and family.

“I’m getting this crazy feeling that people want me to kill myself” he wrote shockingly in the first tweet of several. “That’s not my vibe at all, but i feel the push. And I feel like even more than that, some people want me to feel ashamed.”
“Shame is heavy yo. And feeling shame for something that you were once prideful about is super heavy” he continued. “What’s really weird is that music is the number one thing that influences how I feel on the daily.”
“For anybody out there that’s texted me the past few days, I appreciate you. And I’m happy being able to spend time with my family and do a lot of the things I used to do before I got so wrapped up in making this project” Chance added. “And the number one thing that’s been on my heart and has been reaffirmed in the last week that I’m now 100% sure of is… That I LOVE my wife.”
The string of messages is troubling and confusing at first, but appears to be a reaction to critics of The Big Day and its themes. Conversely, The Search from NF plays as a very different album, dealing more with the struggles of mental health vs. the joy of marriage.
Several minutes later, Chance attempted to clarify his comments.
“I just want to reiterate that I don’t want to kill myself, nor am I ashamed of loving my wife. I think I just wanted to say out loud that I see the vibes” he wrote. “Tryna tell yall how I feel now I done f***around missed chik fil a breakfast.”
