The Weeknd just dropped a collaboration that fans have spent a long time waiting for.
“Smile” is the latest single from the “Blinding Lights” singer and features the late rapper Juice WRLD.
When “Smile” arrived, The Weeknd sent out a tweet directed at Juice saying “wish we could celebrate together.”
Earlier in the week, The Weeknd sent Twitter into a frenzy when he tweeted “XO + 999 Thursday night.”
The “XO” is a reference to himself while “999” is a reference to the late Juice WRLD, who had the number tattooed on his body and used it in his merchandise.
A few hours later, The Weeknd dug up an old Juice tweet saying “Me and The Weeknd would make a diamond record” and responded with three prayer hands emojis.
"Smile" marks The Weeknd’s first new music since he dropped his fourth studio album After Hours earlier this year. That album yielded three singles including “Blinding Lights,” “Heartless,” and “In Your Eyes.”
The collaboration would marks another release for Juice WRLD, whose posthumous album Legends Never Die has become the most successful posthumous record of the last two decades in the US.
The July 10 release has amassed the largest first week sales of 2020 earning 497,000 equivalent album units in the US (equating to 422.63 million on-demand streams of the tracks on the album), in the week ending July 16, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
