To say Kanye West has had an eventful week on Twitter may be an understatement. Now, he’s making a promise to help out an artist he’s had a longtime feud with.
Earlier this week, Kanye’s Twitter account was temporarily suspended as he was kicked off the social media service for 12 hours. West got the boot after he posted the phone number of Forbes’ chief content officer Randall Lane. A Twitter spokesperson said “the Tweet was removed for posting private information, and the account has been temporarily locked in accordance with our Private Information policy.”
Since his return, Kanye’s been pushing to get ownership over his master recordings Universal and Sony going as far as posting every single page of every contract he’s signed.
In his latest tweet, Kanye promised to help an unlikely individual. Taylor Swift.
“I’M GOING TO PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT TAYLOR SWIFT GETS HER MASTERS BACK. SCOOTER IS A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND,” he said.
While it may seem like an unlikely allyship, the two have been fighting a similar fight. “For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work,” Swift wrote in a Tumblr post back in 2019.
The post came after music executive Scooter Braun purchased her masters as part of the $300 million acquisition of Big Machine Label Group. Instead of engaging in a legal battle, Taylor revealed she was planning on re-recording her albums that were a part of Big Machine Label Group so that she can get ownership over them.
